The program at MEC House began on June 6th 2009. When we first accepted the invitation to come to Pailin we rented a house for the purpose of a small learning centre where young people could learn English and computer literacy during their out of school hours. The assist in the securityof the house two young men from the Catholic community were invited to live in the house. So Saroun and Chana moved in. The centre began with a small number of locals with the Brothers teaching English and with the purchase of 5 second (3rd or 4th!) hand computers the students began to learn typing in Khmer using the unicode system. Things have grown since then. Now there are more than 100 students accessing the centre each day and with the help of our friends in Singapore we have been able to purchase 5 new computers and improve the quality of our second hand computers. We also have emplyed three young Khmer men who help to teach the computing classes and also some English. Sela, Sokkorn and Phally are proving to be good workers and companions.
